The Credibility of Scientific Studies

Aren't you just tired of headlines in various news outlets that make a scientific statement without any authentic evidence backing their claims?

"A new study shows………" (what study, in what conditions, by whom?) or "Scientists studying this or that say ……." (which scientists, where?) There are no credible facts.  No bona fide references or genuine, convincing back-up. No scientists' names and credentials. Quite frankly after the global warming fiasco who would even believe scientists these days?  Not to mention how many times scientists have had to back track years later on studies that were purportedly "settled science."

The worst part is that statements just get left hanging out there ready to be swept up and spread and once these "so called" studies take legs they often become "fact" without question.

It would appear that the media report studies and scientific discoveries without significant and plausible backing and that should give us pause because in my opinion they don't really want the truth, they only want a story.  They've proved that to me over and over again but that is for a different discussion.

My thought is that even when scientific studies are supported by substantive and extensive research by noteworthy scientists, we should still evaluate them with our gut and our own common sense….they are much more reliable.
